Mifal HaPais has opened a new season of its Torah essay project and is launching a writing track for women focused on essays of thought and reflection. The annual initiative, long regarded in Israel’s religious, educational and literary circles, is meant to encourage original female writing, intellectual depth and Jewish philosophical inquiry.

This year’s theme is “Until he makes peace with his fellow,” and entrants are asked to examine the human and Jewish ability to forgive, reconcile, renew relationships and begin again after conflict or crisis. The essays must be based on original study, conceptual research and close analysis of sources from the Bible and the sages.

The project is being coordinated by Ruhama Paz, alongside a professional judging panel made up of leading women from the worlds of scholarship, academia and education. Winning entries will receive cash grants of 25,000 shekels for first place, 15,000 shekels for second place and 10,000 shekels for third place, and seven additional essays will receive honorable mention.

Mifal HaPais said the project continues to attract a very large response, with hundreds of strong, thoughtful and inspiring submissions each year from women across Israel. Chief Executive Officer Beni Dreifuss said, “Mifal HaPais places broad emphasis on the world of spirit and thought. We are proud to lead this special project, which provides a worthy and respectful stage for women’s writing and allows essays and innovations of the highest level to be expressed.” Submissions are open until 3 September 2026, via the online form at www.pais.co.il or by email to [email protected]. Application forms and the full regulations are available at Or HaChaim bookstores, and questions can be directed to the project email or the dedicated phone line, 03-3135722.
