Ben-Gvir Approves Long-Delayed Police Legal Advisor Appointment After Year-Long Stalemate

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has finally approved the appointment and promotion of Superintendent (Raffak) Reut Rosenberg to the rank of Deputy Superintendent (Sgan Nitzav) within the Police's legal advisory department. This decision concludes a year-long dispute between Ben-Gvir and the Attorney General over Rosenberg's nomination, which had become a central point of contention.

The appointment, initially recommended in August 2025, was stalled for approximately a year as Ben-Gvir refused to sign the necessary documents. The deadlock was broken after the new legal advisor to the police, Superintendent (Nitzav) Eran Nahon, personally appealed to Ben-Gvir.

In his letter to the minister, Nahon emphasized Rosenberg's professionalism, dedication, and capabilities, noting that he had spoken with her multiple times. He highlighted the critical nature of the role, which involves providing legal defense for police officers and safeguarding the public interest while combating crime.

Nahon stressed the importance of the position in ensuring the police operate according to the law and proactively work against crime. Copies of the letter were also sent to Gil Limon and Sharon Afek. Following this direct appeal, the appointment is now moving forward, ending the extended period of "arm-twisting" and inaction.
