Alanis Morissette Sues Israeli Manager Over Drug Smuggling Allegations

Singer Alanis Morissette has filed a federal lawsuit in California against Keren Orinov, an Israeli woman who was temporarily managing her 2025 European tour. Morissette accuses Orinov of civil extortion, fraud, and misrepresentation, alleging that a dispute escalated into an "extortion scheme" where Orinov threatened to report the singer to British authorities for drug offenses.

The core of the dispute reportedly stems from an incident on July 12, 2025, at Farnborough Airport in the UK. According to the lawsuit, British border officials stopped Orinov for a search, finding marijuana and Xylazine, a veterinary anesthetic, in her bag. Morissette claims Orinov told authorities the bag was hers and presented an Israeli medical cannabis license, after which she was released.

Morissette alleges that after the tour concluded, Orinov and her lawyer began sending letters threatening legal action in the UK. The singer claims Orinov offered to "resolve the matter" if Morissette agreed to hire her as a full-time tour manager for 15 years with a specified salary, annual raises, and bonuses. Orinov also allegedly demanded assistance with a U.S. work visa, or additional compensation if that failed.

When Morissette refused, the lawsuit states, a subsequent letter from Orinov implied that if her demands were not met, she would accuse Morissette of involvement in drug offenses and trafficking to British authorities. Morissette is seeking over $75,000 in damages, punitive damages, and a jury trial.

The lawsuit also details other allegations, including that Orinov failed to disclose a past arrest in Latin America on suspicion of drug smuggling during her hiring process. Morissette claims this information would have influenced her decision to hire Orinov. Additionally, Morissette alleges a professional error by Orinov, a former employee of Live Nation Israel, in booking a hotel resulted in nearly $70,000 in expenses.

Notably, Orinov filed her own lawsuit against Morissette in London on August 19, approximately two weeks before Morissette's U.S. filing. The details of Orinov's claims are not fully clear but are classified as related to communications and publications. Orinov has not yet responded to media requests for comment.
