Israeli Forces Kill Mother and Daughter in Gaza Displacement Camp Attack

Israeli occupation forces killed a 9-year-old girl, Israa Al-Hessi, and her 50-year-old mother, Amina Al-Hessi, on Wednesday by firing on tents housing displaced people east of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. Israa was playing with her doll inside their tent when she was shot, and her mother died hours later from her wounds. Marwa Al-Hessi, Israa's sister, recounted the incident, stating she tried to rescue her sister and found their mother bleeding on the ground after hearing the gunfire. She noted that the shots were fired towards the tent area east of Salah al-Din Street. "Until when will we bid farewell to martyrs every day?" Marwa questioned, lamenting the loss of her mother and sister. She held up Israa's doll, urging the world to see the "unjust and faltering" reality. Funeral services were held for the victims at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The Gaza Ministry of Health announced that 8 people were killed and 31 injured in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, with many casualties still trapped under rubble. The ministry also stated that since the "ceasefire" on October 11, 1,334 people have been killed and 4,429 injured. Separately, Gaza's government media office reported on August 25 that at least 21,500 children have been killed since October 7, 2023.
