Israel's High Court Reviews Likud Petition Against Election Data Ban

Israel's Supreme Court, known as the High Court of Justice (BAGATZ), is currently reviewing petitions filed by the Likud party challenging a decision by the head of the Central Elections Committee, Noam Solberg. The petitions seek to overturn Solberg's prohibition on collecting data on election day regarding which voters have cast their ballots and who has not.

A panel of three judges, Yael Willner, Alex Stein, and Khaled Kabub, is hearing the case. Previously, the ruling coalition had intended to pass legislation that would bypass Solberg's ruling. They even approached opposition parties to propose a joint bill to circumvent the decision.

However, no opposition parties agreed to support the coalition's proposed legislation. Following this, the coalition determined that unilaterally advancing such a bill would present significant legal challenges, leading them to abandon that course of action.
