IDF Dismisses Reserve Unit Commander Over Prayer With Jewish Aggressors

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has dismissed a reserve unit commander from his leadership position following an incident in the Palestinian village of Qusra in the Samaria region, where his soldiers were documented praying alongside Jewish aggressors while a Palestinian family was under siege. The investigation, reported by Israeli broadcaster Kan, revealed that the incident occurred approximately three weeks ago. Reserve soldiers from the Home Front Command were seen praying with the Jewish individuals who were blockading the Palestinian family.

According to the investigation, the commander had received explicit instructions to avoid any actions that could be interpreted as sympathy or support for the aggressors, or endorsement of illegal activity in the outpost. He was also directed to maintain a distance between the soldiers and the aggressors. Despite these clear directives, the commander permitted the settlers to complete their prayer quorum, leading the soldiers to join them.

The documentation of the event sparked widespread criticism and was seen as damaging to the IDF's image, particularly as it appeared to show soldiers supporting the aggressors instead of protecting the Palestinian civilians who were vulnerable to attack.

As a result of the investigation, the unit commander was removed from his command. No disciplinary action was taken against the soldiers who participated in the prayer, as the investigation concluded they were acting under their commander's orders.
