Golan Accuses PM's Office of Incitement Campaign, Cites 1995 Assassination

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Movement party, stated at a conference hosted by Ynet and Yediot Ahronot in collaboration with the Israel Democracy Institute that he believes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office is orchestrating an incitement campaign against him. Golan was responding to conspiracy theories, reportedly amplified by Prime Minister Netanyahu's wife, Sara Netanyahu, suggesting he had prior knowledge of the October 7th Hamas attacks.

Golan described the accusations as personally infuriating but also as an attempt to delegitimize the public by targeting him with claims of betrayal and suspicion. He asserted that these falsehoods originate from the Prime Minister's office, dismissing the possibility of them being mere slip-ups. "This is an incitement campaign again from the Prime Minister's office," Golan stated, adding, "And we know how an incitement campaign ends; in 1995 it ended with the assassination of the Prime Minister."

The remarks draw a direct parallel between the current political climate and the period leading up to the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995, which followed a period of intense public criticism and incitement against him.
