Lieberman Rules Out Unity With Eisenkot, Urges Bloc Consolidation
Avigdor Lieberman, chairman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, stated at the "Decisive Time: Democracy and Society" conference hosted by Ynet and Yediot Ahronot in collaboration with the Israel Democracy Institute that he will not unite with Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the National Unity party. Lieberman cited significant ideological differences, asserting his own clarity on political stances compared to what he described as Eisenkot's "very vague phrasing." He specifically criticized Eisenkot's unwillingness to definitively rule out sitting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, or with ultra-Orthodox parties like Shas and United Torah Judaism.
Lieberman emphasized the necessity for smaller parties failing to cross the electoral threshold to be absorbed by larger ones, stating, "There is no doubt, otherwise we will lose three to four mandates." This call for consolidation aims to prevent wasted votes and strengthen the bloc's overall representation in the Knesset.
