Rabies-Infected Jackal Caught Near the Sea of Galilee Is Suspected in Weekend Attacks
Israel Nature and Parks Authority inspectors captured a rabies-infected female jackal at Dugit Beach on the Sea of Galilee, in the Golan Regional Council area. Authorities suspect it was the same animal that attacked 11 people on Saturday.
The Nature and Parks Authority said the current year has been unusual for the spread of rabies. It reported more than 74 confirmed rabies cases in just the past six months.
Of those cases, 43 were identified in stray dogs, many of them in Judea and Samaria. The authority did not say whether additional monitoring or preventive steps have been ordered after the capture.
