Right-Wing Groups Demand Military Downgrade for Former Top Military Prosecutor

Four right-wing organizations have sent a letter to Defense Minister Israel Katz demanding that he order the IDF Chief of Staff to revoke the military rank of former Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi. The groups, including "Victory Generation Reservists," "Mothers' March," "Combat Doctrine," and "Intervention Force," also urged Katz to ensure that any review of Tomer-Yerushalmi's case considers the impact on her pension and other benefits.

The organizations cited Tomer-Yerushalmi's admission of involvement in transferring investigation materials to the media as grounds for the proposed rank revocation. They argued that according to military law, the Chief of Staff has the authority to review and order the demotion of an officer under specific circumstances. The letter emphasized that the standard applied to Tomer-Yerushalmi, who headed the military legal system, should be the highest possible.

The signatories stressed that the issue extends beyond a purely criminal matter, framing it as a command, ethical, and institutional question within the military's purview. They requested that the review specifically examine how a demotion would affect her pension, future payments, and any benefits already received, along with any other legally required actions.
