Arson Attack on West Bank Mosque Linked to Israeli Commentator

Unknown assailants set fire to a mosque in the West Bank village of Azaria overnight and spray-painted graffiti, including threats and anti-evacuation messages. Among the messages were "Evacuations = Chaos. You have been warned" and a direct threat to military commentator Roni Sharan, reading "Roni Sharan, watch your car." The graffiti targeting Sharan is believed to be in response to his social media posts criticizing radical youth groups.

Reports suggest the perpetrators were Jewish extremists. Another message spray-painted on the mosque walls read, "Greetings from the terrorists" and was directed at U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Harkavy.

In response to the incident and other serious arson and assault events in the southern Hebron Hills area, Israeli police arrested eight suspects overnight. The suspects, aged 16 to 20, are residents of the Judea and Samaria region and central Israel. Three vehicles suspected of being used in the offenses were also seized.

The police stated that the investigation is ongoing and that they view acts of violence and property damage that harm national security and settlement efforts with extreme severity. Authorities vowed to continue efforts to locate and apprehend those involved in such incidents throughout Judea and Samaria.
