Dolav Hazeza Recounts On-Field Altercations and Team Dynamics

Maccabi Netanya winger Dolav Hazeza has spoken about his experiences, particularly during his time at Maccabi Haifa, in a recent interview with Dani Inbar for Sport 5. Hazeza, who has returned to regular play with Maccabi Netanya after a challenging period with Maccabi Haifa, described his former teammate Omer Atzili as a player who transforms from a seemingly unmotivated individual in training to a star performer in matches. 'We understood each other with our eyes closed,' Hazeza stated about his connection with Atzili on the field.

He contrasted himself with former teammate Neta Lavi, whom he described as the opposite of his own fiery personality. Hazeza lauded Lavi's calmness and intelligence, calling him the 'hardest blow' to the team when he departed and someone always reliable. Hazeza also detailed an incident with defender Abdoulai Sissoko, whom he initially considered the best in the league. During a poor performance against Hapoel Jerusalem, Sissoko became enraged after a comment from Dean David and began a verbal tirade. When Hazeza tried to intervene and calm the situation, Sissoko allegedly lifted him into the air. Hazeza noted that while he and Sissoko are now good friends, Sissoko's 'rigid personality' created a negative atmosphere.

Hazeza also touched upon the arrival of forward Pierrot, admitting that the team initially thought they were being pranked due to his unconventional appearance. He also addressed the controversial chants against Maccabi Tel Aviv after their first championship, admitting to heavy drinking and subsequent regret. 'I apologized for the songs,' Hazeza said, explaining his inebriated state after celebrating with teammates.
