Yair Golan Demands Education Ministry, Pledges Core Curriculum Funding
Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, announced his party's intention to seek the Ministry of Education portfolio in a potential future government. He outlined his plan for the ministry, stating, "The current education minister has turned teachers into enemies and Kahanists into partners. We will prioritize public education. Those who do not teach core subjects will not be funded."
Golan criticized the current government for dismantling the Ministry of Education and transforming it into a political tool that disadvantages public education in favor of sectarian streams. He alleged that substantial budgets have been channeled to private Haredi networks.
Central to his proposed action plan is the establishment of a "Council for Public Education." This independent body would act as a gatekeeper, safeguarding the education system from the infiltration of "anti-liberal content."
