Settlers Block Inspectors Issuing Demolition Orders in West Bank Outpost

Inspectors from the Binyamin Regional Council arrived at the unauthorized outpost of Geulat Tzion in the West Bank on Tuesday to issue demolition orders for several structures. The inspectors were met with resistance from residents, who blocked their movement.

Amishav Malt, whose brother Benyahu was killed and was a founder of the outpost, stated that inspectors were going house to house, issuing demolition orders for buildings including a synagogue and a kindergarten. He claimed that during the mourning period for his brother, Israeli officials Israel Gantz and Bezalel Smotrich visited and promised to work towards regulating the outpost.

The demolition orders come amid the Binyamin Council's advancement of plans to build approximately 1,200 new housing units in the nearby settlement of Amichai, located in the Shilo bloc. This expansion aims to increase Amichai's population to over 6,000 residents and create a contiguous settlement area between Amichai and Shvut Rachel.

The Binyamin Council stated that the area designated for development in Amichai contains illegal structures in Geulat Tzion, which were erected despite prior warnings that the land was reserved for Amichai's expansion. The council also noted that attempts had been made over the years to reach understandings with Geulat Tzion residents to allow continued settlement without hindering Amichai's growth.
