Eyal Golasa Retires From Soccer After Decorated Career

Eyal Golasa, a prominent Israeli midfielder, announced his retirement from professional soccer at the age of 34. His career, spanning over a decade, was marked by significant achievements, including five league championships. Golasa secured two titles with Maccabi Haifa (2009, 2011) and three with Maccabi Tel Aviv (2019, 2020, 2024). He also won the State Cup in 2021 and two Super Cups with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Golasa began his career at the youth academy of Beitar Tavorok before joining Maccabi Haifa at 16. He made his Premier League debut at 16 and played in the Champions League a year later. His European experience included a stint with PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece from 2014 to 2016. He then returned to Israel, embarking on an eight-year spell with Maccabi Tel Aviv, followed by a final season with Maccabi Petah Tikva in 2024-2025.

Reflecting on his journey, Golasa expressed gratitude for living his dream, from his humble beginnings hitchhiking to training sessions to playing on the biggest stages. He acknowledged the emotional highs and lows of the sport, including goals, titles, injuries, and disappointments. Golasa stated that after years of physical strain, he felt it was time to listen to his body, calling the decision to retire a complex but ultimately fulfilling one.

He extended thanks to his family, coaches, medical and logistical staff, clubs, and fans for their support throughout his career. Golasa also represented Israel, earning 17 caps for the national team. During his time with Maccabi Haifa, he scored 19 goals and provided 7 assists in 171 appearances. With Maccabi Tel Aviv, he netted 13 goals and assisted 24 in 225 games.
