Israel Grapples With Rising Crime and Violence

Israel is facing a significant challenge in restoring a sense of security to its streets, as rising crime and violence spark widespread public debate. A panel discussion titled "How to Restore Security to the Streets?" will explore existing solutions, the challenges faced by law enforcement, and the crucial balance between effective security measures and the protection of civil rights.

The panel, moderated by Sharon Keidan, will feature former senior police official Eran Kamin, Ilahf Center for the Advancement of Security in Arab Society CEO Rawia Hnako, and senior fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute Tomer Lotan, who previously served as Director-General of the Ministry of Public Security. Dr. Yael Litmanovitz, head of the Policing and Internal Security Program at the Israel Democracy Institute, will also participate.

Discussions will focus on strengthening the state's ability to combat crime and violence, defining the balance between expanded law enforcement powers and civil liberties, and identifying key steps for the next government. The conference, "Decisive Time: Democracy and Society," organized by Yedioth Ahronoth Group in collaboration with the Israel Democracy Institute, will take place on September 2nd and be broadcast live on ynet. Other critical issues on the agenda include the integration of the Haredi community into the military and economy, and the constitutional crisis.
