Israel Issues Rosh Hashanah Travel Warnings for Uman Amid Ukraine War

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued emergency travel guidelines for Israelis planning to visit Uman, Ukraine, for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday. The warnings cite the complex and unpredictable security situation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Travelers are advised that a nightly curfew will be enforced and procedural changes are expected during the holiday period. The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to local laws, presenting identification when requested, and avoiding arguments or defiant behavior that could lead to arrest, as Israeli consular assistance does not extend to intervening in local law enforcement matters.

On the security front, visitors must take air raid sirens seriously, immediately seeking shelter in the nearest protected area. They are also urged to avoid gatherings in areas prone to missile impacts or interceptions. Photographing or posting images of military installations, vehicles, soldiers, or impact sites on social media is strictly prohibited, as it could expose security force activities.

Dual Israeli-Ukrainian citizens are particularly cautioned that local authorities may treat them as Ukrainian citizens, potentially imposing restrictions that limit Israel's ability to provide assistance. The ministry also recommended downloading the 'Israeli Traveler' app, ensuring passport validity, carrying prescriptions in English, and bringing up to five packages of personal medication, while strictly prohibiting narcotics, psychotropic substances, and medications banned in transit countries.

Finally, travelers should anticipate congestion on roads and at border crossings. They are advised to avoid paying tourist taxes through unknown individuals and to retain necessary documentation.
