Carrefour Rolls Back Some Cottage Cheese Price Hikes, but Keeps Tera at NIS 7.90

After ynet exposed the hikes, Carrefour partially reversed some of its cottage cheese price increases, but it is still selling Tera cottage cheese for NIS 7.90. The report says many supermarket chains raised prices on Tera and Strauss cottage cheese in recent days, beyond the increases announced by the dairies themselves, Tera by up to 2.9% and Strauss by up to 1.2%. Some chains also raised the price of Osem cottage cheese even though Tnuva did not increase its price at all. The article notes that in 2011 consumers took to the streets when Tnuva cottage cheese reached NIS 8.

Carrefour was described as the most aggressive retailer. It raised Tera cottage cheese in Carrefour Market and Carrefour Market Mehadrin from NIS 6.80 to NIS 7.90, a 16.2% jump, and Strauss cottage cheese in Carrefour Online, Market, City and City La Merche from NIS 7 to NIS 7.90, up 12.9%. After publication, Carrefour lowered some prices, but not back to the original level. In Carrefour Online, Strauss was cut from NIS 7.90 to NIS 7.10, and Tera from NIS 7.90 to NIS 7.10, bringing the increases closer to the dairies' announced price rises.

Still, the NIS 7.90 price remained unchanged in several Carrefour banners. In Carrefour Market and Carrefour Market Mehadrin, Tera stayed at NIS 7.90, and in Carrefour City La Merche it remained at NIS 7.90 as well. The article says those hikes were not moderated.

Other chains also followed with new increases on Monday. Shufersal raised Tera cottage cheese in Yesh from NIS 6 to NIS 6.20, in Shufersal Deal and Online from NIS 6.30 to NIS 6.50, in Shufersal Express from NIS 7.20 to NIS 7.50, and in Shufersal Sheli from NIS 7 to NIS 7.40. Victori also increased Tera, from NIS 6.40 to NIS 6.60, and Mahsanei HaShuk raised it by 1.5% from NIS 6.80 to NIS 6.90 after already hiking Tnuva and Strauss cottage cheese.
