Israel Navy Notes Increased Turkish Naval Activity Amid Regional Tensions

The Israeli Navy has observed a significant increase in the Turkish Navy's activity in recent months, including heightened military exercises and a stronger presence in the Mediterranean Sea and key shipping lanes. Israeli naval officials describe this buildup as a potential shift, indicating a strategic need for readiness in the face of possible military confrontation.

This development follows an Israeli Air Force strike on the Al-Dhahir airport in Syria approximately two weeks ago. Israel had identified Turkish military preparations to deploy soldiers to the base. Shortly thereafter, Israeli security sources reportedly informed the United States that Turkey was preparing to install a radar system at the same airport.

Sources familiar with Israeli-US discussions suggested that such a deployment could have altered the regional balance of power. While Israel did not specify a target date for the Turkish systems' arrival, they indicated the airport, located about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, as a potential site.

Despite these concerns, a defense establishment source stated that Israel does not wish to make an enemy of Turkey. Secret channels are reportedly being used to convey messages and prevent friction between the two nations.
