Shlomo Cohen and Chaim Altman Release New Song for High Holy Days

As the Jewish High Holy Days approach, emotional singer Shlomo Cohen and composer Chaim Altman have released a new duet titled 'Lemaancha' (For Your Sake). The song aims to accompany the public during the prayers of the Days of Awe and express the plea, 'Do it for Your sake, if not for our sake.'

The project is timed for the period when the Jewish people prepare for the High Holy Days. Unlike many singles released for this season, 'Lemaancha' focuses on a central theme from the 'Avinu Malkeinu' prayer, a cry asking God to act for His own sake, even when individuals feel they lack sufficient merit.

Altman explained the inspiration, stating, "We ask God for so many things in 'Avinu Malkeinu,' and in the middle, we cry out 'Do it for Your sake.' I felt a need to turn these words into a pleading melody that expresses the heart's yearnings and gives voice to the familiar cry and prayer." He noted that Cohen's gentle and moving voice was a natural fit for the melody and its interpretation.

Cohen, known for his unique voice and deep emotional expression, was chosen for his ability to connect with listeners. The collaboration with Altman, recognized for his distinctive and nostalgic melodies, creates a musical experience bridging the past and present.

Jonathan Levy produced and arranged the song, crafting a rich and emotional soundscape that blends delicacy with power, and emotion with sanctity, suitable for the Days of Mercy. The song joins other musical works released for the High Holy Days, standing out by focusing on specific words from 'Avinu Malkeinu' and offering them a new, moving musical interpretation.
