Sources within Israeli football and the Canadian business community suggest that Mitch Goldhar, the owner of Maccabi Tel Aviv football club, is contemplating selling the team. While no formal sale process has begun, the decision is believed to have been made, according to these sources. One senior Israeli football official close to the club stated that while the sale might not happen for several years, Goldhar feels a responsibility to the club and has observed the situation in Israel for over a year, beyond professional and managerial failures. The official also cited Goldhar's awareness of fan reactions, including the incident involving player Žarko Lazetić, as reasons for his reduced presence in Israel and decreasing investment, describing it as a "process that has begun and may take time."

Despite these reports, Maccabi Tel Aviv CEO Jack Angielidis recently conveyed that Goldhar wishes to be more present. Angielidis explained that Goldhar's business commitments in Canada, which fund his investment in Maccabi Tel Aviv, require his attention, making travel to Israel difficult. He added that Goldhar remains active and involved in decision-making, expressing hope for his increased presence soon.

Following the team's elimination from European competition, Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have directed unprecedented criticism towards Goldhar on social media.
