IDF Soldier Recites Kaddish Where Father Fell in Southern Lebanon

Rabbi Yehuda Moyal, 21, recited the Kaddish prayer at the exact spot in southern Lebanon where his father, Master Sergeant (Res.) Shaul Moyal, 47, was killed in battle approximately two years ago. Shaul Moyal, a father of 10 and a frontline fighter in the 8207th Battalion, fell during combat in southern Lebanon. Yehuda, who enlisted in a combat role a year after his father's death, visited the site with fellow soldiers, marking a significant personal closure.

"The ground here holds a part of me that changed the moment my dad was killed. But we continue the mission my father left us," Yehuda told Israeli media. He explained that before his unit entered Lebanon, he called his mother, who encouraged him to complete his father's mission. The video of him reciting Kaddish went viral, resonating with many.

Yehuda shared a conversation his father had with his brother, where Shaul explained his decision to fight on the front lines despite having 10 children, stating he had accomplished much and wanted the younger generation to carry on. Shaul Moyal's mission, his son added, was to help return residents of northern Israel to their homes.

Upon arriving at the site, Yehuda observed that the terrain had changed significantly since the battle where his father and his comrades fell in October 2024. The area, once filled with structures that concealed terror infrastructure, was now cleared, marked by a pile of stones and an Israeli flag. "My true joy is that you come to a place and you simply see that it's all flat. This expresses something much stronger, that the people of Israel are here," he said.

Yehuda views the birth of his niece, his first nephew, as a symbol of continuity and the true victory, signifying that life goes on and the family continues to grow and build, carrying forward his father's legacy. He felt the encounter with the site of his father's death provided a sense of completion amidst the altered reality of his life.
