Benny Gantz Vows to Continue Leading Blue and White Despite Polls and Party Departures

Amid polls placing Blue and White below the electoral threshold and a wave of resignations within his party, Benny Gantz, the party leader, firmly stated in a Saturday interview on 'Meet the Press' that he has no intention of withdrawing from the race. Gantz rejected suggestions to step aside, emphasizing his commitment to national unity and his belief that Israel needs a unified government. He dismissed rumors about seeking other roles such as ambassador to Washington, calling such ideas baseless and stressing that he is not looking for a job but to serve the country.

Gantz addressed criticism regarding his insistence on leading the opposition camp and explained his stance against relying on Arab parties for government formation after the October 7 attacks, calling it a mistake. He also commented on his former allies, including Gadi Eizenkot and Hili Tropper, noting ongoing communication with Tropper and respect for Eizenkot, whom he described as suitable for prime minister. Gantz reiterated that he would support Eizenkot if he wins the elections and forms a unity government but ruled out running alongside him.

Responding to accusations that he is blocking change and accused of enabling Netanyahu, Gantz highlighted his past refusals to join Netanyahu except under emergency circumstances. He expressed determination to lead a government that crosses political divides and tackles Israel's serious challenges. Despite internal party departures, including Yaal Ben Moshe and Michael Biton, Gantz said Blue and White is renewing and attracting new members. He remains committed to uniting the Israeli political bloc and forming a responsible government, rejecting narrow coalitions.

Gantz also commented on Defense Minister Ofir Winter, praising his military experience but suggesting he needs more political experience before taking higher office.
