Gilad Erdan Reveals Talks to Unite Third Bloc with Yaron Zelekha's Economic Party

Gilad Erdan, chairman of the Unity Party, disclosed ongoing political merger talks with Yaron Zelekha, leader of the Economic Party, aiming to consolidate forces ahead of elections. Erdan highlighted Zelekha's appealing platform addressing the cost of living crisis in Israel, a key concern among citizens. Despite these efforts, Erdan's party remains well below the electoral threshold.

In parallel, Erdan has held two meetings with Benny Gantz, leader of Blue and White, discussing shared priorities despite differing policy views. They agreed on the importance of forming a broad Zionist government, implementing universal national service, and pursuing a consensual judicial reform rather than a politically dominated one. Their talks are set to continue next week.

Erdan explained in an interview that leaving Likud to establish the Unity Party was a significant political risk. Meanwhile, Gantz has called for unification within the third bloc, launching a campaign to bring smaller parties together under a platform committed to supporting only a broad Zionist government excluding ultra-Orthodox and Arab parties.

These developments come amid a political landscape where all third bloc parties currently fall short of the electoral threshold, prompting urgent efforts to form a united front before upcoming elections.
