Ilya Smirin Wins Israeli Blitz Chess Championship After Tight Contest
After a dramatic and closely fought competition decided only in the final round, Grandmaster Ilya Smirin was crowned Israeli Blitz Chess Champion. The 58-year-old Smirin, representing the Ashdod Chess Club, secured first place at the championship held in Afula by scoring 10 points out of 12 rounds. He narrowly edged out Grandmaster Avital Boruchovsky from the Kfar Saba Chess Club and International Master Michael Klenburg from Beersheba, who also finished with 10 points but ranked lower on tiebreaks.
