Jerusalem Mourns Passover Krishievsky, Survivor of 2015 Terror Attack, at Age 90

Passover Krishievsky, a revered Jerusalem figure known affectionately as "the Jerusalem drummer," passed away at age 90. He was celebrated for decades as a beloved presence at weddings and joyous events in Jerusalem, where his drumming brought happiness and unity to the community. Krishievsky was deeply connected to authentic Jerusalem life and was known for his humility, kindness, and devout faith.

Krishievsky’s name is also remembered for his survival of a brutal terror attack on October 13, 2015 (3rd of Tishrei, 5776), during a wave of violence in Jerusalem. While waiting at a bus stop on Malchei Yisrael Street in the Geula neighborhood with his cousin, Rabbi Yeshayahu Akiva Krishievsky, a terrorist rammed them with a car and then attacked them with a knife. Rabbi Yeshayahu was murdered on the spot, while Passover was critically wounded and hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem.

Against all odds and medical expectations, Passover Krishievsky miraculously recovered, attributing his survival to the prayers of the community. During his hospitalization, he openly protested against Sabbath desecration, emphasizing the sanctity of Shabbat as a shield for the Jewish people. After his recovery, he returned to the attack site to recite a blessing of thanks for his survival.

In his later years, Krishievsky continued to bring joy to celebrations, dancing at family events and expressing gratitude for his life. Friends and family remember him as a devout, humble, and warm individual whose faith and character left a lasting impact on Jerusalem’s spiritual and communal life. He is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who continue his legacy of Torah and Hasidic devotion. His passing is mourned deeply by the Jerusalem community.
