Extremists Ignite Fires in Jerusalem Protest Against Light Rail Construction

Severe disturbances erupted on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem on Thursday evening as a group of extremists protested against the construction of the city's light rail. The protesters set trash bins on fire, threw objects at police forces, and intermittently attempted to block traffic routes near the construction site. Jerusalem District police, along with riot control units and border police, responded to restore public order and disperse the rioters.

According to police reports, after declaring the protest illegal and ordering the crowd to disperse, officers used force and crowd control measures when the protesters refused to comply. One suspect was arrested on suspicion of arson related to the disturbances and was taken for questioning at a police station. Police emphasized their ongoing efforts to restore order, prevent further damage to infrastructure, and reopen traffic routes for the public.
