Houthi Terrorists Launch Ballistic Missiles at Red Sea Islands Amid Rising Regional Tensions

The Houthi terrorist organization recently escalated its attacks by firing ballistic missiles at several islands in the Red Sea, a critical maritime route connecting Asia to Europe. Saudi Arabian sources reported the missile strikes, highlighting the ongoing threat the Houthis pose to international shipping lanes in the region. This development coincides with increasing international warnings about the Houthis' intensified activities and threats to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

The missile launches mark a significant escalation after nearly three years of Houthi attacks targeting vessels in the area. In response, the United Nations Security Council has established a maritime security force tasked with protecting free navigation in the Red Sea. Following the missile strikes, this security body affirmed its commitment to continue its mission without interruption.

In parallel, a recent American research institute report revealed that the Houthis are expanding their influence into the Horn of Africa by recruiting hundreds of fighters from African countries. The report detailed cooperation between the Houthis and the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab. Yemeni government forces in Maqla arrested a Somali national in 2024 who allegedly acted as a liaison between the Houthis and Al-Shabaab, facilitating the transfer of up to 400 Somalis for military and ideological training in Houthi camps and assisting Houthi engineers in reaching the Somali city of Jilib.
