Outgoing Mossad Chief Dedi Barnea Urges Escalation Against Iranian Regime Until Its Fall

Dedi Barnea, the outgoing head of Mossad, called for intensified economic, political, and operational actions against the Iranian regime until its collapse. He made these remarks during a ceremony at Jerusalem Municipality on Thursday, where Mayor Moshe Lion awarded him a commendation on behalf of the city council and residents. Barnea emphasized that sanctions against Iran, while important, are only a step in the process and that escalation is inevitable to bring down the extremist regime.

Barnea noted that both Iranian citizens and the Western world, led by the United States and Israel, desire the regime's downfall. He highlighted a shift in international perception, stating that Iran is no longer seen as solely Israel's problem but a global threat due to its ballistic missiles, terrorism, and nuclear ambitions. He also assessed Israel's strategic situation as significantly improved since the October 7 massacre, claiming that "we have changed the equation."

Regarding regional threats, Barnea said Hezbollah remains dangerous but weakened, and Hamas no longer exists as the organized, threatening military force it once was. He praised the unprecedented cooperation between Mossad and the Israel Defense Forces, describing their joint efforts as a unified and lethal force protecting the nation.

Barnea, who joined Mossad in 1996 and served about 30 years, concluded by dedicating the award to all Mossad employees, calling them the "unsung heroes" of Israel. Mayor Lion thanked Barnea for his heavy responsibilities and critical decisions that safeguarded Israel’s security. Barnea also commended Lion's leadership in developing Jerusalem’s infrastructure and fostering unity among its diverse communities.
