Portland Will Not Release Deni Avdija for Israel's National Team Camp
The Israel Basketball Association said on Monday evening that Deni Avdija will not join Israel’s national team this summer for World Cup qualifying. According to the federation, it received a letter from the NBA a few days earlier stating that Portland does not intend to release Avdija for the upcoming July window.
Israel is scheduled to play Germany and Croatia on July 3 and July 6. The national team roster for those two games will be announced in the coming days, and training is set to begin next Sunday, June 21.
Avdija had played for Israel at EuroBasket last summer, helping the team reach the round of 16 for the first time in 10 years. He averaged 24 points per game in the tournament, the third-best mark in the competition, behind Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
