Jerusalem extremists mark U.S.-Iran deal in synagogues as a Zionist defeat

Ultra-Orthodox extremist groups in Jerusalem’s Mea Shearim neighborhood celebrated the U.S.-Iran agreement inside local synagogues. Worshippers were offered pastries and refreshments, while posters were distributed alongside them.

The posters hailed what they called the “defeat of the Zionists” and quoted religious-language slogans, including “The heart of kings and rulers is in the hand of the Lord.” One poster also said, “For the Lord is the kingdom and He rules over the nations. The heart of a king and rulers is in the hand of the Lord and the defeat of the Zionists,” alongside a quotation from the sages about the downfall of the wicked.

The celebrations came after the signing of the agreement between the United States and Iran. According to the article, the extremist circles in the neighborhood interpreted the deal as an event with religious significance and linked it to the Hallel prayers recited at the start of each Hebrew month.
