Tesla Rolls Out Summer Update Enhancing FSD and Voice Assistant for Older Vehicles
Tesla has begun releasing its summer software update, version 2026.26.6.5, which includes the new Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised v14.3.8 system. This update enhances the vehicle's artificial intelligence capabilities, expands the voice assistant Grok's functions, and extends improvements to cars equipped with older Hardware 3 (HW3).
A key feature of FSD v14.3.8 is a 20% reduction in system response times, enabling quicker reactions to changing road conditions. The update also improves performance in rare scenarios, low visibility, and expands recognition of various road signs. It better handles emergency vehicles, school buses, small animals, and objects protruding into driving lanes. These enhancements are based on complex data collected from Tesla's fleet.
The update unifies the AI driving model across FSD, the Actually Smart Summon feature, and robotaxi services, aiming for consistent and reliable behavior across different use cases. Tesla emphasizes that FSD remains a supervised system requiring driver attention and readiness to intervene.
Grok, Tesla's voice assistant developed by xAI, now supports controlling vehicle functions by voice in cars with AMD computers. Drivers can command Grok to make calls, play music, adjust climate settings, or navigate controls using the wake phrase “Hey Grok” or a button on the steering wheel. Tesla states that voice interactions are anonymized and not linked to specific vehicles.
For older HW3 vehicles, mainly Model 3 (2019-2023) and Model Y (2020-2023), Tesla is releasing FSD v14.1 Lite via firmware 2026.21.6. This version brings some HW4 features to older hardware, including parking from a stationary position, new speed profiles, and route arrival options. Currently, this release is limited to early access users for real-world performance monitoring.
In Europe, Tesla reports that FSD-equipped vehicles have surpassed 100 million kilometers driven across five countries where the system is approved, doubling the mileage since mid-July. This milestone highlights the rapid expansion of FSD usage following its initial approval in the Netherlands in April 2026.
While some features like fully autonomous driving and Grok voice control are not yet available in Israel, Tesla may introduce them after completing relevant regulatory processes. Overall, the summer update marks a significant step toward a more software-driven driving experience, supporting both new and older Tesla models.
