Former Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel Discusses Military Service and Political Fight Against Draft-Dodging Law

As part of the "Maskhaki Elections" project by HaOlam HaBoker, Paz Robinson met with former Communications Minister Yoaz Hendel from the Zionist Home-Militia List in Gush Etzion. Hendel, who grew up with his friend and fellow reservist in Elkana, emphasized the strong connection between his extended military reserve service and his political positions. He stated, "For three years, we have been fighting on the front lines and battling in civilian life to prevent the passage of the draft-dodging law."

During a jeep ride through the area, Hendel shared personal stories, including being expelled from multiple schools and his family life with four children, noting that his eldest daughter recently enlisted in the military. He also discussed a children's book he authored during the Second Lebanon War titled "Dad Goes to Reserves," which reflects his military experiences in literary form.

After preparing coffee, the group swam in a natural spring, where Hendel recounted the strangest message he received as Communications Minister: a man who had unresolved issues with his HOT cable box repeatedly called and cursed him for years. When asked about his future goals, Hendel expressed a desire to travel, work, explore new places, and contribute positively to politics.
