Skver Hasidic Dynasty Celebrates First Wedding in Israel After Decades in New York

This week, the Skver Hasidic community in Bnei Brak, Israel, marked a historic change by hosting the wedding of the granddaughter of the Modzitz Rebbe locally, breaking a long-standing tradition. Previously, all weddings of the Skver Rebbe’s descendants, including grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were exclusively held in the large synagogue hall in the Skver neighborhood of New York, with only a few exceptions in Monsey.

The bride is the granddaughter of the Skver and Almin Rebbes, and the groom is the grandson of the Modzitz Rebbe, son-in-law of Rabbi Yosef Shik, and grandson of the Zvhil-Monsey Rebbe. Both reside in Israel and wished to celebrate their marriage with family and friends living there, prompting the unprecedented decision to hold the wedding in the Holy Land.

The joyous event in Bnei Brak attracted a large crowd of Hasidim, prominent rabbis, and rebbes, including Rabbi Meir Tzvi Bergman, a member of the Council of Torah Sages and uncle of the Zvhil Rebbe, as well as Rabbi Yitzchak Twersky, son of the Skver Rebbe. Despite the wedding taking place in Israel, the couple and their families flew to the United States the following day to celebrate the traditional seven blessings (Sheva Brachot) and the upcoming Shabbat Sheva Brachot in the presence of the Skver Rebbe at the main synagogue in New York’s Skver neighborhood.
