Tiago Splitter Set to Leave Portland for Chicago Bulls Job
Brazilian coach Tiago Splitter is set to part ways with the Portland Trail Blazers and take a new job with the Chicago Bulls next season. According to NBA reporter Shams Charania, Splitter is in the final stages of being hired as Chicago's head coach.
Splitter joined Portland only a few games into the season, during a volatile stretch for the franchise. He quickly stabilized the team and significantly improved its play, helping the Blazers get back on track and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021/22.
Portland's season ended with a 4-1 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round, but Splitter still finished well above the club's expectations. Chicago chose him, Charania reported, because of his ability to develop players, his fit with the organization's philosophy, and his long-term vision for the franchise.
His background also strengthened his candidacy. Splitter has coached since 2018 and played seven NBA seasons, including one championship with the San Antonio Spurs.
