Honey Cake Prices Rise Up to 15% Ahead of Rosh Hashanah in Israeli Bakeries
Ahead of Rosh Hashanah 2026, several Israeli bakery chains have raised prices on honey cakes and other festive pastries, with increases reaching up to 15%. A price comparison between 2025 and 2026 menus reveals mixed trends, with some bakeries lowering prices but often alongside changes in product size or promotional offers.
Maafeh Ne'eman reduced the price of its classic honey cake by 10% per 100 grams by increasing the cake's weight from 550 to 600 grams and lowering the price from 40 to 39 shekels. However, their two-cake promotional price rose from 60 to 70 shekels, a 7% increase per 100 grams. Premium honey cakes at Maafeh Ne'eman also saw a price hike from 45 to 50 shekels, with no current quantity discounts.
Bakery/Delicatessen, part of Maafeh Ne'eman, lowered the price of its Rigik cake by 9% but increased the price of its honey cake with nuts and almonds by 11.5%. Lachamim bakery raised prices on classic honey cakes by 4% and citrus honey cakes by 17%. Miki Shamo bakery increased prices on various honey cakes by 5.3% to 15.4%, including a 15.4% rise on honey cake squares from 39 to 45 shekels.
Biscotti bakery raised prices on classic honey and ricotta honey cakes by about 6%, with other cake sizes also seeing modest increases. Roladin kept the price of a simple honey cake stable at 46 shekels but increased mid-range honey cake prices by nearly 4%. Boutique Central maintained most honey cake prices despite rising raw material costs.
Bakery owners attributed price increases to rising costs of raw materials, production, labor, and operations. Maafeh Ne'eman emphasized their goal to offer larger cakes at accessible prices to enable families to celebrate the holiday. Miki Shamo highlighted that their classic honey cake price remained unchanged despite using pure honey. Lachamim noted their cakes use honey from a family-owned apiary operating under challenging conditions. Boutique Central committed to maintaining prices despite raw honey cost increases.
Overall, while some bakeries managed to lower or maintain prices, most raised honey cake prices by up to 15% due to ongoing cost pressures ahead of the Jewish New Year holiday.
