Rabbi Yosef Avitan, Founder of 'Emet VeShalom' Schools, Dies at 66

Rabbi Yosef Avitan, the founder and head of the 'Emet VeShalom' educational institutions in Kiryat Gat and director of the 'Erakim' organization, passed away at the age of 66. Born on 27 Nissan 5720 (1960) to Rabbi Mordechai Avitan and Mrs. Chaya, he was renowned for his dedication to Torah study and acts of kindness, devoting his life to educating Israeli children. Rabbi Avitan played a central role in establishing and leading the 'Emet VeShalom' schools and worked tirelessly through 'Erakim' to foster spiritual connection among Israelis with deep commitment and wisdom.

Following his passing, the Maayan Torah Education Network 'Bnei Yosef' and other educational leaders issued heartfelt condolences, praising him as a man who greatly increased Torah knowledge and maintained strong faith. Additional condolences came from the Jerusalem Magen David Adom leadership, staff, and volunteers, including his son, David Avitan, a volunteer ambulance driver in the Har Nof neighborhood. Rabbi Avitan's funeral took place at the Sephardic funeral home on Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem, attended by family, friends, and admirers.
