Thousands Gather in Mexico City as Leading Rabbis Continue Torah Support Mission

The ongoing mission of leading rabbis to support the "Olam HaTorah" fund continued in Mexico City with a series of historic events, prayers, meetings with community donors, and a central rally attended by thousands. Rabbi Malkiel Kotler, head of Lakewood Yeshiva, joined the mission yesterday and participated in the day's activities.

The day began with the rabbis reciting Selichot prayers and Shacharit at the Keter HaTorah synagogue, led by Rabbi Shaul Kardi. A large number of local Jews joined for a special communal prayer, a rare occurrence in the area. Following the prayers, Rabbi Aharon Salim led the congregation in Psalms and the acceptance of the yoke of heaven, praying for the salvation of the Jewish people in the Holy Land from harsh decrees. Rabbi Yisrael Hillel recited the Birkat HaGomel blessing, and a mass Priestly Blessing was performed by dozens of kohanim.

Later, the rabbis addressed the crowd, emphasizing the great merit in supporting the preservation of Torah study. At 11:00 AM, a broad meeting took place at the office of donor Shimon Masri, who brought many local philanthropists. The rabbis highlighted the immense value of sustaining Torah in the Land of Israel and the honor of being partners in its continuation.

At 3:00 PM, a central dinner was held at donor Eddie Alfiah's office. Afterward, the rabbis signed a Torah scroll donated to the community and met with many community members for blessings and consultations.

The day's climax was an evening rally and prayer gathering at the Magen David synagogue of the Halabi community, packed to capacity with thousands attending. Rabbi Shalom Galai led the congregation in tearful Psalms. Rabbi Reuven Wolf, chairman of the Olam HaTorah fund, praised the dedication of the senior rabbis who undertake the demanding global mission to support Torah study despite their advanced age. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of their students, who part from their mentors during the month of Elul, and stressed the community's privilege to partner in sustaining Torah, likening it to the biblical relationship of Issachar and Zebulun.

The rabbis delivered words of encouragement for the month of Elul, urging the community to strengthen their commitment to Torah, prayer, and reverence for God, and to assist in supporting Torah study in Israel. The mission will continue as the rabbis travel to Panama for further events aimed at reinforcing the partnership of the Jewish diaspora in sustaining Torah study and ensuring its flourishing in Israel.
