Tiv Taam Buys Ashdod Land for 41 Million Shekels to Secure Future Branch

Tiv Taam, a major Israeli supermarket chain, has purchased a 6,000-square-meter plot in Ashdod's western industrial zone for 40.8 million shekels through its subsidiary. The acquisition, completed at the end of June 2026, aims to establish a new branch expected to open in 2029, coinciding with the expiration of the current lease at its Star Center location in Ashdod. This move is partly motivated by the possibility that the existing lease will not be renewed, amid legal disputes and concerns related to the store's operation on Shabbat and its non-kosher status.

The company disclosed in its Q2 2026 financial report that the current Ashdod branch's landlord filed an eviction lawsuit, which was settled through mediation on June 24, including an increase in management fees. Five days later, Tiv Taam finalized the land purchase as a precautionary step to ensure continuity in the city. The company emphasized that it does not intend to change its operating model, which typically involves leasing store locations.

Tiv Taam operates 47 branches nationwide and continues to expand, recently opening a Deli Market in Rishon Lezion and planning new stores in Shoham and Pardes Hanna. The Q2 financial results showed a 3% revenue increase to approximately 555.8 million shekels and a net profit rise of 3.2% to about 25.4 million shekels. Adjusted profit, excluding one-time expenses from a financial dispute related to its acquisition of East and West, was 28 million shekels, up 13.9%. Retail revenue grew by 1% to 425 million shekels, with same-store sales increasing by 0.7%, driven by online sales, delivery via Wolt, and the TivClub loyalty program. The trade sector also contributed significantly, with revenues rising 6.5% to 160.4 million shekels, boosted by the full acquisition of East and West, an Asian food importer, and a stronger shekel reducing import costs.
