Hapoel Be'er Sheva Falls Short of Champions League, Secures Europa League Spot

Following their championship win last season, Hapoel Be'er Sheva aimed to return to European competitions this summer, ideally reaching the Champions League. Club owner Alona Barkat expressed hope for the Champions League but was prepared to settle for the Europa Conference League after two years without European play. The team entered the European campaign with a roster considered weaker than the previous season's, relying heavily on coach Ran Kozuch's ability to maximize limited resources.

Despite Kozuch's efforts, the team ultimately fell short of Champions League qualification. Central defender Miguel Vitor, initially not expected to be a starter, was the team's defensive standout until injury forced him out, leading to defensive instability. Midfielders Lucas Ventura and Eliel Peretz were praised, but striker Igor Zlatanovic was highlighted as equally crucial for his psychological impact on opponents and game control. Zlatanovic's absence exposed the team's lack of depth, with replacements like Malada and Mohammed Abu Romi unable to maintain the required level.

Although missing out on the Champions League was disappointing, Hapoel Be'er Sheva secured a spot in the Europa League, a significant achievement for the club and Israeli football. The club expects the incoming funds, including proceeds from the sale of Kings Kangwa, to enable the acquisition of two to three high-profile players. These reinforcements will be vital for competing on two fronts next season: the domestic title race and the Europa League campaign.
