Israeli Couples Honor Deceased Loved Ones in Wedding Ceremonies with Unique Memorials
Several Israeli couples are incorporating heartfelt tributes to deceased family members into their wedding ceremonies, blending celebration with remembrance. Shaked Goldstein Tzrikar and Eliran Tzrikar, who married in November in the Galilee, both lost their mothers before their wedding. They honored them with a photo display, candles, and a live painting by artist Noam Shaked that included the mothers' images alongside the couple during the ceremony, creating an emotional moment for all present.
In Rishon Lezion, Sapir Mor Kasentini and Amit Cohen, married in April, placed a reserved chair with a framed photo and names of their late grandparents and other relatives in front of the chuppah, symbolizing their presence at the event. The gesture deeply moved guests and helped the couple feel their loved ones' spiritual support.
Other couples have found personal ways to memorialize. Sharon Lieberman and Adi Govili, married in May, used custom-made pins featuring a photo of Adi's late mother, which were worn by family members during the reception. Their story inspired Sharon to start a business creating memorial pins named after Adi’s mother, Rita.
Tair Sarusi and Saar Yael, married in October, played a recorded birthday blessing from Tair’s late father during the ceremony and released a balloon inscribed with "Dad," turning a moment of loss into a celebration of love. Meanwhile, Einav Kotzer Shamir and Shay Shamir, married in September, created a memorial corner for Einav’s late friend and soldier Regev Amar, including a sign inviting guests to raise a shot in his honor.
Artists like Yasmin Adinev and Shneor Lipsker have seen increased demand for live wedding paintings that incorporate images of deceased loved ones, sometimes volunteering their services for fallen soldiers. This trend reflects a growing desire among Israeli couples to blend joy with remembrance, ensuring that those who have passed remain part of their most significant life moments.
