Former IDF General Ofer Winter Plans Political Launch Amid Coalition Challenges

Retired Brigadier General Ofer Winter is set to launch his political party this evening, aiming to impact the religious Zionist sector with his charismatic leadership and security background, according to strategic advisor Roy Lachmanovich. Speaking on Kol Barama radio, Lachmanovich noted that despite interest in Winter's move, there is no true 'third bloc' in the current party landscape, as all parties must align to reach the 61-seat majority needed to form a coalition in the Knesset.

Lachmanovich highlighted a key challenge for Winter: while Bezalel Smotrich's party benefits from a deep and stable grassroots network across Israel, including youth movements and party infrastructure, Winter's support largely comes from online popularity without established organizational foundations. He recommended that Smotrich offer Winter a collaborative role or reserved spot on his list, which would test Winter's willingness to cooperate. Refusal could allow Smotrich to portray Winter's stance as personal rather than principled.

Regarding Moshe Feiglin, Lachmanovich advised that right-wing parties should largely ignore him, as Feiglin tends to run independently without forming alliances, drawing votes that fail to pass the electoral threshold. Direct engagement with Feiglin only amplifies his presence, which could be detrimental to other right-wing factions.
