Trump Administration Considers Recalling US Ambassador to Turkey Over Golan Heights Comments

The Trump administration is reportedly considering recalling Tom Barrack, the US Ambassador to Turkey and special envoy to Syria, following controversial remarks he made about the Golan Heights. Barrack described the Golan Heights as historically Syrian territory, a statement that contradicts the official US policy established in 2019 when President Donald Trump recognized Israeli sovereignty over the area. This has caused significant dissatisfaction within the White House and the State Department.

The controversy intensified after Barrack suggested in a podcast interview that Israel did not inform the US in advance about a recent strike on the Abu al-Duhur base in northern Syria, which Turkey allegedly sought to use for establishing a presence. He implied the strike might have been intended to provoke Turkey, sparking criticism from Israeli officials and pro-Israel groups in the US.

According to American right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, who is close to Trump and White House circles, internal discussions are underway about recalling Barrack due to his conduct and statements, which are believed to have escalated tensions between Israel and Turkey. Officials reportedly blame him for creating the impression in Jerusalem that Washington is not adequately addressing Israeli concerns about Turkey's growing influence in northern Syria.
