Resident Warns Ignoring Gaza Kite Threat Could Lead to Disaster

Batya Holin, a former resident of Kibbutz Kfar Aza now living in Kfar Monash in the Hefer Valley, spoke on Kan Reshet Bet about the ongoing threat posed by incendiary kites launched from the Gaza Strip. She expressed a strong desire to return to her home in Kfar Aza but doubts she can due to Hamas activity near the border and the kites landing in communities surrounding Gaza. Holin criticized Israel's current approach, stating that despite repeated warnings over 23 years, including her own alert on September 24, 2023, about breaches and unrest at the border fence, authorities have not taken adequate action. She described nightly explosions and visible damage to the fence, yet responses minimized the threat, considering the incidents minor as long as there was no direct fire.

Holin warned that the situation is again approaching a potential disaster similar to the events of October 7, 2023. She urged a fundamental change in how Israel responds to these provocations, emphasizing that each kite landing carries a clear message from Hamas that they can reach Israeli communities. She noted that the IDF recently confirmed the kites are launched by Hamas operatives, not children, highlighting the tactical nature of these attacks designed to test Israeli responses. Holin stressed the urgency of immediate and effective management of such threats, especially after the October 7 attacks, to prevent escalation.

A security official added that Israel does not believe Hamas will disarm and that the IDF has been instructed not to push the Gaza border line westward, indicating a cautious military posture. Holin’s testimony underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by residents near Gaza and the need for a revised strategy to address the kite threat before it leads to further violence.
