Dominican Republic Adopts IHRA Definition of Antisemitism at Major Latin American Conference

The largest conference in Latin America dedicated to combating antisemitism opened in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with over 70 leaders from 19 countries attending, including nearly 50 legislators from across the continent. Dominican President Luis Abinader announced at the event, organized by the Campaign Against Antisemitism Movement (CAM), that the country will adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. He also revealed plans to establish the nation’s first museum dedicated to Jewish heritage.

Among the participants was Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, former special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump for monitoring and combating antisemitism. During the conference, the leaders visited the Dominican Parliament, where they held discussions on legislative measures aimed at fighting antisemitism, hatred, and discrimination.

This event marks a significant step in Latin America’s efforts to address antisemitism through international standards and national initiatives, reinforcing regional cooperation against hate crimes and promoting Jewish cultural preservation.
