Survey Finds Nearly 90% of Israeli Parents Report Learning Disruptions from Recent War

A recent survey conducted by GeoCartography Institute and Menor Center among about 1,000 Israeli parents reveals widespread educational, social, and psychological impacts on students due to the "Roaring Lion" war. Nearly 90% of parents reported academic harm to their children, 74% noted social difficulties, and over 80% observed mental health effects. The most severe impacts were reported in the state Hebrew and Arab education systems.

Students who experienced frequent class cancellations last year due to teacher shortages suffered compounded damage during the emergency, with 77% severely affected academically compared to 37% among those with stable schooling. Similar trends appeared in social and psychological harm. Only 22.4% of parents expressed satisfaction with the Education Ministry's handling of the crisis.

Parents showed distrust in remote learning solutions, favoring either full school closures with makeup days during vacations or small group learning in shelters exclusively with regular teachers. In contrast, the Haredi education sector reported significantly lower impacts, with 63% of parents indicating no social harm and 45.5% no psychological harm, suggesting maintained community routines or detachment from emergency events.

Education Minister Yoav Kish commented on Home Front Command guidelines for the coming days as the new school year approaches, amid these concerning findings.
