Founders of Twistlock Shut Down Startup Minimus, Return Funds to Investors
The founders of Twistlock, a container security company, have decided to close their latest startup, Minimus. Originally launched as Gutsy, the company shifted focus and rebranded before ultimately ceasing operations and returning remaining cash to investors. Twistlock’s founders, Ben Bernstein, Dima Stopel, and John Morello, are prominent figures in Israel’s cybersecurity sector, having sold Twistlock to Palo Alto Networks in 2019 for approximately $410 million.
Minimus initially raised $51 million in a first funding round from YL Ventures and Mayfield. Despite this, the company struggled to gain commercial traction in a highly competitive global market. After attempts to merge, sell, or spin off the development team failed, the founders chose to wind down the company and refund investors rather than fully deplete the funds.
This decision marks a rare move in the startup ecosystem, emphasizing financial prudence and investor consideration amid challenging market conditions for container security solutions.
