Trump Administration to Announce Unprecedented Sanctions to Isolate Iran Economically
The Trump administration is set to unveil a sweeping new wave of sanctions on Monday aimed at nearly completely isolating Iran from global trade. The goal is to force the Iranian regime to capitulate or collapse due to economic chaos and civil unrest. The sanctions threaten penalties against any country or company continuing trade with Iran, excluding humanitarian goods such as food and medicine. Concurrently, the U.S. Navy plans a long-term strategy to fully control the Strait of Hormuz and tighten the maritime blockade.
The U.S. Treasury is expanding efforts to seize Iranian financial assets, including monitoring and blocking cryptocurrency accounts holding significant Revolutionary Guard funds, particularly those linked to the economic conglomerate Khatam al-Anbia. Iran has responded sharply; Professor Mohammad Marandi, a member of the Iranian negotiation team, warned that military confrontation could resume soon and threatened harsh treatment for any regime cooperating with the U.S. to starve Iranian citizens. He also stated that the global economy is on the brink of collapse.
These measures compound Iran’s already severe economic crisis, marked by acute fuel shortages, a monthly gasoline ration of 60 liters per vehicle, severe wage erosion with average family incomes covering only half of living costs, and a drastic 75% decline in non-oil trade with China. Trade with the UAE has halted completely, while exports to Turkey and India have sharply decreased.
Key elements of the U.S. economic blockade include threats against any non-humanitarian trade with Tehran, a long-term naval blockade plan, disruption of digital accounts holding Revolutionary Guard assets, and severe fuel rationing worsening civilian hardship.
