Knesset Clash Erupts Over Future Security Minister and Possible Investigations
A sharp and unusual verbal confrontation broke out in the Knesset between MK Mickey Levy and coalition chairman Ofir Katz, amid political debate over future cabinet appointments and the conduct of law enforcement.
The exchange began when Levy referred to the possible appointment of his faction colleague Yoav Segalovich as the next minister for internal security, currently the national security minister. Levy warned coalition members that Segalovich would not forget what happened in the chamber or what, in Levy’s words, they had “done.”
Katz answered sarcastically, asking, “What will you do to us? A dungeon?” Levy then escalated the confrontation further, telling him, “You will be summoned for questioning.” The remark immediately reignited Katz’s anger, and he portrayed the comments as politically motivated persecution of the right.
Katz told fellow lawmakers, “Why do we need an investigation? Straight to prison, we are right-wing people.” He also mocked the idea that the minister for national security should stay out of investigations, saying that rule would only change once Segalovich became the minister, adding, “Write that down.”
