Flydubai Agrees to Compensate Passengers After Connecting Flight Cancellations

Flydubai has reached a court-approved settlement following a class-action lawsuit alleging that passengers who purchased tickets with connecting flights but missed their final destinations due to cancellations did not receive full refunds. The case began in January 2025 when passenger Shahal Bezalel filed the suit at the Central District Court in Lod, claiming that after a connecting flight from Dubai to Israel was canceled, his family was not refunded the full amount paid for their tickets. Flydubai initially rejected the claims, stating the issue involved a small number of cases, but later estimated around 103 passengers over the past four years could be entitled to compensation totaling up to 275,000 shekels.

Under the settlement, Flydubai will proactively identify affected passengers from the last four years whose connecting flights were canceled and who did not reach their final destinations. The airline will contact these passengers directly or through travel agencies to issue vouchers covering the difference between previous partial refunds and the full ticket price. Additionally, Flydubai will update its website to clarify passenger rights, explicitly stating that cancellations preventing arrival at the final destination entitle travelers to full refunds.

The court also approved a 7,000 shekel reward for Bezalel and legal fees of 42,000 shekels plus VAT for his attorneys. For nine months, Flydubai’s Israeli representative will publish notices enabling passengers to check their eligibility for compensation. This settlement ensures that passengers affected by canceled connecting flights receive fair reimbursement beyond just the canceled segment, addressing a significant legal question about passenger rights.
